St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Stuart, FL has asked us to post an open position that our Institute alumni might be interested in.
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is a large congregation of about 1,300 members just minutes from the Atlantic coast. It is an active community center with 5 very different services each weekend, ranging from an early Rite 1 service with no music to a Contemporary service with a five piece band. There are 60 ministries within the church where people can invest their time and energy, as well as ministry partners in our area that we work with to help support healthy families in the community around us. All of this is meant to provide a community in which parishioners and visitors alike can be accepted, loved and challenged to grow.
Our mission statement says it all: Growing Into Jesus, Reaching Out in Love. At St. Mary’s we take seriously the belief that spiritual formation is as important as physical and mental formation, and that it makes a difference in how we see ourselves and what we do. That’s why this position of Director of Spiritual Formation for Youth and Families is so important. It means working with teams of folks, including especially parents, to help form souls for Christ. The successful candidate will join a team of 10 full-time staff members to do just that.
This position has been created to oversee the spiritual nurture of children from nursery through high school, and to work with their parents to craft a vision for the home as the primary space for spiritual formation. The Director will need to be visionary, seeing the opportunity for large numbers of people to be involved in the spiritual formation process. The Director will need to be a team player, raising up teams who will help to carry out the work, ranging from organizing and executing regular Sunday morning and evening programs, as well as significant events such as Vacation Bible School and mission trips. The Director will need to be soul-centered, realizing that often it is the journey, not the destination, that matters most. The successful candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree, and have experience in working successfully in the area of spiritual formation or Christian education. He or she will also want to be an ongoing learner, eager to grow in their understanding and appreciation of the field. If you love learning and helping others to grow in their relationship with Christ, you’ll love it here at St. Mary’s!
